At the end of January 2009, on announcement of the award of funding for a new phase of work, the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UK Commission) re-engaged ConsultSQL's Lewin Alley in the role of Project Manager.

Having established a five theme framework - from the initial seven 'interventions' - and a technical proof of concept, Phase 3 was planned to take the UK Talent Map into live operation.

Under Phase 3, the framework was finalised along with the operational 'look and feel'.

talentmap Home PageDespite a need to reposition the technical development of the main web site, talentmap™, as it is now registered and branded, was launched as a live system on time and to budget ion the 7th July 2009.

Since then, a great deal of effort has gone into the refinement of the talentmap™ spider and presentation of search results.  The project team has undertaken a range of engagement activity which has developed content partners' awareness of how to align their own website content with the talentmap™ framework in order to 'speak' to employers.  Lewin Alley has led on how to optimise website content for the talentmap™ search engine, to improve their ranking and visibility within talentmap™ search results.

talentmap™ is now, as planned, moving into ongoing operation.  It will continue to be owned by the UK Commission on behalf of the talent coalition, whilst HMRC, through the Businesslink.gov.uk service, will handle the technical operation of the main talentmap™ web site.

ConsultSQL is proud to have been associated with this project. It is a great example of developing and delivering a live, working product into the public domain from what was just an ambition only eighteen months ago.

The talentmap™ framework is well on its way to underpinning transactions and communications across the UK skills, talent, employment and education landscape, whilst the online tool is clearly set to mature into an increasingly valuable resource; helping to 'hide the wiring' when bringing public sector support to employers, irrespective of how they are governed.
